Solotel celebrates International Women’s Day
To mark International Women’s Day 2024, Solotel is hosting two events highlighting the incredible female talent within the business.
Lil Sis Series
To mark International Women’s Day 2024, Solotel is bringing together a collective of its incredible female chef and sommelier talent for a two-night series. Chippendale’s wine bar and shop Lil Sis will host the event, with Lil Sis’ own sommelier Zoe Brunton teaming up with Master of Wine Annette Lacey (Solotel’s lead sommelier and one of only six MoW in Australia) and star sommeliers from Aria (Vikki LouPeng), Chiswick (Georgie Davidson-Brown) and Chez Blue (Eva Santaguida). They’ll be on hand to pour a stellar collection of female-produced wines including Tessa Brown’s Vignerons Schmölzer & Brown; Nadja Wallington’s Chalou Wine; Irina Santiago-Brown’s Inkwell; and Clare Burder’s Eminence Wines.
Aria’s head pastry chef, Aoife Noonan, and Opera Bar’s senior sous chef Naomi Xavier will curate the ultimate wine drinking share-style menu for the two nights. They’ll use ingredients from some of Australia’s leading female artisanal producers including Alto Olive Oil, Holy Goat Cheese, Garlicious, Grassland Poultry, Allous chocolate and Singing Magpie figs. The $55 per person 6-course shared style menu begins with a selection of cold cuts from the Lil Sis Berkel served with Cherry Moon fig leaf sourdough and olive oil. Followed by Holy Goat fromage frais with heritage beetroots and Nonie’s buckwheat crackers; jamon and Manchego croquettes with black aioli; then chicken ballotine with butternut squash and agrodolce. Finish off with dessert - coffee cremeux, white chocolate and vanilla cream puff pastry with Amaretto caramel and finally, Holy Goat La Luna with figs.
PHP’s Women in Wine Festival
Public House Petersham is transforming its carpark into a Wine Garden to host the Women in Wine Festival for International Women’s Day. Kick back, relax and sip on Australian wines crafted by women including Mem Hemmings from Meredith; Sue Bell of Bellwether Wines; Erin Frances Pooley of Little Frances Wines and more.
There’ll be plenty of wine tasting, pizzas by the slice, and local DJ Simeen Valjee playing chill tunes by femme musicians. Don’t miss the women-centric panel featuring engaging and lively chats with female winemakers and sommeliers too.
There are two options for tickets, either 2 x 75ml tastings for $15 or 5 x 75ml tastings for $35 at any of our vendors stalls. PHP will have donation buckets placed around the venue to raise funds for Mudgin-Gal, an Aboriginal organisation run by Aboriginal women providing essential services for Aboriginal women.
There will be some tickets on the door but pre-ordering tickets is recommended to skip the queues! And doggos are warmly welcome.
