St Vincent’s Purchases Solotel’s Green Park Hotel
24 November 2020
St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney and Solotel have completed the sale of the Green Park Hotel to the Trustees of St Vincent’s Hospital to use for hospital related patient care, training and research endeavours.
St Vincent’s will not seek to extend the Green Park’s existing liquor and gaming licenses.
The iconic hotel will soon accommodate the growing needs of St Vincent’s health services including the community mental and urban hub health services, the St Vincent’s Curran Foundation Arts for Health Programme, a studio for St V’s TV and the St Vincent’s innovation and improvement hub.
Solotel Director, Elliot Solomon said “The Green Park Hotel has been part of the Solomon family and Solotel Group for more than 30 years. We have loved every minute of our time in welcoming the Darlinghurst community to the Green Park. We wish St Vincent’s all the best as it continues to deliver care and supports the Darlinghurst community into the future.”
Solotel CEO, Justine Baker said: “The support we’ve received over the years from our much- loved guests, the Darlinghurst community and the Green Park family has meant the world to us. To each and every one of you, we say thank you for making the Greeny all that it is. We look forward to giving it the send-off it deserves with our guests over the coming weeks.”
A/Professor Anthony M. Schembri AM, St Vincent’s Health Network Chief Executive stated “The Green Park is rightly regarded as a fine example of Federation architecture, built in 1893, when the area was predominately working class. In more recent decades, it has become regarded as a particularly inclusive watering hole, especially for our LGBTQI community.
“We are therefore mindful that the site has long held a special place in the hearts of many Darlinghurst locals and we will ensure we preserve the building’s heritage and acknowledge its historical legacy.
“St Vincent’s looks forward to growing our community-based and outreach services as well as housing our innovation and arts programmes at the new stvincent’s@greenpark”, said Professor Schembri.
