WORLD BAR RETURNS TO SYDNEY FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY

Media Release: 26 September 2023

Get off the sofa and limber up because the World Bar is making a comeback.

The Sydney icon will take over another local nightlife institution, Kings Cross Hotel, on Saturday, November 18 for a one-night-only party almost five years to the day since it closed.

‘World Bar – One More Time’ will feature a plethora of live music and DJs spanning four levels, paying tribute to the Wham, Cakes and Mum nights of years gone by.

The famous teapot cocktails will also make an appearance and there may even be some disco balls.

Guests will get to explore the atmosphere of the World Bar once again, with more than 20 artists and producers getting involved, with the full line-up to be announced in the coming weeks.

One of Sydney’s most infamous music venues, World Bar hosted thousands of DJs and bands during its 18 years on Bayswater Road, including ARIA award-winning Gang of Youths, What So Not, Nina Las Vegas, Ninajirachi and music producer Dom Dolla, who is currently tearing up the US.

World Bar owner Steve Ward can’t wait to reintroduce people to the much-loved establishment.

“It’s been a while since we threw a shindig, we think it’s time," he says.

“We always had a great relationship with the characters at the Kings Cross Hotel so we’re looking forward to working with them to bring World Bar back to life. The building has some similarities, so we’re hoping to emulate much of what made it special, from the busyness of the stairwells to the floor-to-floor discovery, where each level has something interesting to reveal.”

Solotel CEO, Elliot Solomon, who operates Kings Cross Hotel, says the ‘World Bar – One More Time’ event is a great example of the group’s ongoing commitment to creating unforgettable experiences across the city.

“Like so many Sydneysiders, I spent much of my youth at World Bar. It’s an institution that had a big impact on a generation of music lovers and partygoers and so bringing it to Kings Cross Hotel and sharing it with a new, younger audience too is really special,” he explains.

As for what people should expect, Ward simply says: “Some say you will never be the same again…”
