Italiano Aperitivo Hour Comes To Barangaroo House This Summer

13 January 2021

Vacays to Italy may be off the cards but you can still get your Italiano fix at Barangaroo House this summer. From 21 January through to 28 February, the first-ever secretive Campari Aperitivo Window opens at rooftop Smoke Bar, bringing with it a little piece of Italian history as well as the perfect Negronis, Campari Spritz, and CampariSodas to sip in the sunshine.

The curious concept is inspired by the ‘wine windows’ or ‘buchette del vino’ of Florence and Tuscany made famous during the 17th century plague. It was an ingenious way for Italians to get their stiff drink fix and wine refills without direct contact. Shut for centuries, interestingly, around 150 of Florence’s historic wine windows have reopened during the 2020 lockdown in Italy.

This summer, chic and cheeky rooftop Smoke Bar is bringing a twist of the wine window to Sydney on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays for the first time. The Campari Aperitivo Window operates during Aperitivo hour (that’s 4pm – 6pm) serving up the perfect Negronis, Campari Spritz, and CampariSoda against a stunning backdrop of Sydney’s waterfront. Bellissimo.

Take the stairs up to the impressive rooftop Smoke Bar, settle in, order your drink with a waiter, and receive a Campari token. Head up to the Aperitivo window, ring the bell, present your token, and just like that your drink appears. Grazie!

Compliment the Italian vibes with executive chef Tom Haynes’ bar snacks including a selection of Italian-style cured meats and cheese to share, Sydney Rock Oysters, and plenty more.

The Smoke Bar vibe is kept upbeat with Sydney’s hottest DJs for the ultimate rooftop experience. Eat, drink and mingle; come for the cocktails, stay for the stars.
